Michael Paul Nelson is the chair of the Department of Humanities and professor of environmental ethics and philosophy at Michigan Technological University on the wild and snowy upper peninsula of Michigan. Just prior to this recent move, he served as the LeadPrincipal Investigator for the HJ Andrews Long-Term Ecological Research Program and as the inaugural director of the Center for the Future of Forests and Society in the College of Forestry at Oregon State University. He is the author of many professional publications and four books, most notably Moral Ground: Ethical Action for a Planet in Peril with Kathleen Dean Moore.
